(Lawrenceburg, Ind.) - The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 Proactive Grant to the Greater Cincinnati Big Brothers Big Sisters for the Southeastern Indiana region to mentoring work with youth.

In a continuing effort to make an impact in the Dearborn County community, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2021 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer board members is recommending a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years.

DCF Board member Becky Lyons, Greendale, recommended the grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters because of her familiarity with the organization through participating in the organization’s annual bowling fundraiser. “I always enjoyed the bowling fundraiser,” Lyons said. “Over the years, I’ve learned to greatly appreciate the mentoring Big Brothers Big Sisters does with youth in our community. The organization and it’s volunteers make a positive on youth in our community.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters Program Coordinator Kristi Eberhart says the $1,000 grant will go a long way for her organization. “Receiving a grant like this from the Foundation is greatly appreciated,” she said. “COVID-19 has really had a negative impact on our fundraising events.”

Eberhart says the DCF grant will help in several ways, including supporting both the community-based mentoring and the school-based mentoring programs. “The grant will help us with supplies for the school-based program and with office equipment,” she said.
